This dress is one of the most stunning examples of Mary Katrantzou’s digital trompe l’oeil we’ve seen to date. Wrapped up like a present on Christmas morning, a form-fitting silhouette in woven silk combines layers of technicolor flowers with an irresistibly shiny metallic rosette. For Spring/Summer 2012, the designer was inspired by the metal sculptures of American artist John Chamberlain, choosing to channel his shining scrapheap abstracts as a counterpoint to her first exploration of floral prints. It’s almost impossible to tell where her skillful 3-D forms ends and her enchanting digital prints begin.
