Imitation of Christ started with a very clear concept, of recycling discarded pieces from Los Angeles thrift stores—the stuff that no one wanted—and making each one into a coveted, one-of-kind item. Now sourcing fabrics from forgotten corners around the world, Tara Subkoff has revived the line specially for Opening Ceremony.
Bright red and pink flowers pick out the delicate floral patterns on this lace jacket. The embroidery was cut from eighteenth-century French piano shawls, and the piece itself dates back to the 1930s, making it a real one-off.
Imitation of Christ
In 2012, Imitation of Christ founder Tara Subkoff resurrected her cult label specially for OC. Once again, playful elegance is brought to the fore, with vintage silhouettes and ultra-feminine elements like chiffon, lace, and floral embroidery. Pieces are perfect for frolicking across beaches in the Hamptons or Manhattan ballrooms, making this label something a young Lil’ Edie would go absolutely wild for.
