For Spring/Summer 2012, Mary Katrantzou’s famous prints are in full flower. And for prints as delicate at the cherry blossom that tops this blouse dress, the designer chose sheer flowing silk chiffon—a departure from her structured forms of seasons past. Unbelievably light and patterned with morphing images of blossom, flowers, and stripes of shiny metal (the designer was inspired by the junkyard sculptures of artist John Chamberlain), this dress is a piece of wearable art.

Everyone who’s ever seen Mary Katrantzou’s prints has fallen in love with them—OC included! Whether she’s referencing Fabergé eggs, Babe Paley, or Imperial China, Mary captivates audiences with her digitized trompe l’oeil patterns and out-of-this-world shapes (think lampshade skirts). Inspired by the textiles at her mother’s furniture factory in Greece, Mary studied fashion at Central Saint Martins and has held court in London ever since!
