Slow and Steady Wins the Race with Some Help from Their Friends
by Daria Radlinski
Our good friend Mary Ping hosted a gallery opening slash fashion presentation last Sunday at Saatch and Saatchi Gallery on the West Side. Her infamous and coveted accessories -- angular sunglasses, mini leather backpacks, and designer handbag homages -- sat like delicious visual morsels within 18 still life installations created by artists and friends of the designer. Slow and Steady wins the race's collaborators included bands No Age and Vampire Weekend, Mike Mills and Miranda July, editorial teams at Conde-Nast, and the artists Andrew Kuo, Amy Yao, and Tauba Auerbach (among others). A regal albino peacock loomed above the crowd as the centerpiece of the still life collection. Guests viewed Slow and Steady's latest offerings, sipped wine, and noshed on mochi and canolli hors d'oeuvres.
