Not your typical pop up shop, Opening Ceremony last night hosted an art opening for Art Production Fund. Friends of A.P.F. and O.C. gathered at our Howard St. flagship to fete the latest public art project by Karl Haendel, the L.A.-based artist known for his serendipitous and haphazard drawings on contemporary life. Obvious references for his latest public work entitled "Scribble" include graffiti and other forms of street art: " My 'scribble' work, because its an anonymous mark and one that anybody could make, I hope will draw attention to the simple need to make a mark, and I hope it makes people think about gesture, pure expression, and the straightforward act of creation," the artist said. Summery Campari cocktails were on hand, and the stylish crowd included a mixture of O.C. regulars and art world fixtures like Terence Koh and A.P.F. founders Doreen Remen and Yvonne Force Villareal. Go check out the "Scribble" in person, on view one block away from O.C. at the corner of Broadway and Howard St.
