Who: CHLOË SEVIGNYWhat: Joan of Arc
How: "I found the dress at a flea market in Paris... The armor I ordered online. The hardest element to find was the Walkman, which was my nod to the Joan of Arc reference in The Smiths song "Bigmouth Strikes Again." I must have gone to five or more Salvation Armies searching for one. I could only find a Panasonic. Smiths purists called me out and said it wasn't a "real" Walkman, because it wasn't a Sony. What nitpickers!"

Why: (via Patricia in Venessa's studio) "Venessa jokes that she and Prince have similar coloring so certain colors flatter them similarly... Undoubtedly, they both share the desire to look like one 'sexy motherfucker!'"
Who: Chef Melia MardenWhat: A Champagne bottle
Why: "I just love Champagne (who doesn't?) and I liked the idea of being glamorous in a super literal way."
Who: OC'sCarol Lim and Humberto Leon
What: Spock and Harry Potter
Why: Humberto: "I was sexy Harry Potter. I wanted to show off another side of Harry." Carol: "I wanted to be a Vulcan going out on a night on the town!"
Who: ArtistMeryl SmithWhat: "Timothy Treadwell [of Grizzly Man] inside of the bear that ate him"
Who: Artist Meryl SmithWhat: "Pizza the Slut"
Who: ArtistMeryl SmithWhat: "Me giving birth to myself"
Who: Publicist Brian Phillips and V Magazine's CecIlia Dean
What: A "demented disco dolly, obviously" and Natalie Portman in Black SwanWho: Artist Andrew KuoWhat: "Walking around with 10 empty pizza boxes"
Why: "It was not actually Halloween night but my friends were going to a party, so I bought a bunch of empty boxes from a pizza spot as a last minute thing. The glee/disappointment levels from people were a 'lil intense. As a punishment, I didn't let myself not hold onto the boxes all night. There was a lot of drinking through straws."
Who: PhotographerTim Barber
What: Bob from Twin Peaks when he turns into an owl
Who: Sales director Anja Tyson and designer Pamela Love What: Frida Kahlo and Georgia O'Keeffe
Why: (from Allison in Pamela's office) "Pamela has always been a huge fan of Georgia O'Keeffe––her style and her art––so it only made sense for her to embody one of her favorite artists. [The costume] was all made with clothing items she actually owned. Then [she] powdered her hair a bit for a grey look. Warm and comfortable!"
Who: Photographer MIRABELLE MARDENWhat: "A sexy cat"
Why: "I always hated those sexy something or other costumes till that Halloween! No one recognized me. Black wig, lipstick, and a dress and I was totally incognito. Unfortunately there are no photos of me as Yoko Ono when I was 11. Now that was cool and hilarious... [Normally] I'm more of a rumpled dog person than a sexy cat."
Who: StylistJay MassacretWhat: "The reference for that costume [was] the illustration on the book jacket of Dennis Cooper's My Loose Thread"Who: Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty of Suno and Rory Satran of OC What: TheDalai Lama, Bloody Jackie, and Nancy Kerrigan
Why: (from Rory) "It was my first Halloween in New York and I was pretty excited to dress up. The 1994 Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding showdown was one of the defining scandals of my childhood, and I was obviously Team Nancy, so I thought it would be fun to recreate that. My friend was supposed to be Tonya with that amazing flowered leotard and a bat, but she flaked. So I went out with my friends Erin, as bloody Jackie, and Max, who has an uncanny resemblance to the Dalai Lama."

The Best Halloween Costumes From OC Friends
There are two types of people in New York right now––those who would be willing to convert to a religion that rejects Halloween just to bypass the whole ordeal, and those who can't wait to continue pinning sequins to their superhero capes. Obviously, we're in the latter camp. But even if you're leaning towards the former, this costume guide––put together with help from OC friends––might inspire you enough to at least dig through your closet for ideas. So take advantage, whether you'd like to be bubbly as an exploding champagne bottle (MELIA MARDEN), icy as Black Swan (CECILIA DEAN), or just weird enough to pique fellow party-goers' interest (why is CHLOË SEVIGNY's Joan of Arc carrying a Walkman?)
