Givenchy and Hepburn, Saint Laurent and de la Falaise... the relationship between designer and muse has been integral to fashion history. Our favorite contemporary designers and their influences are no exception. This season, we asked designers to photograph the people, places, or objects that inspired their Fall/Winter 2012 collections. From batmobiles in Paris to the best skate spots in Moscow, they did not disappoint. Check out what else they came up with in our new series, "UNDER THE INFLUENCE."
The model as a muse is not the most atypical story, but it’s a good one every time. Check out how model Irene Kim inspires (former back-up dancer) Steve J and (secret singer) Yoni P!
Who is your muse? Irene Kim
Describe the first time you met:
Yoni P: She walked into our design studio for a model casting. As soon as we saw her, we fell in love with her smile. She’s an energetic, playful girl.
How does she influence you?
YP: She looks stylish in everything. When we create the new collection, we imagine the kind of clothes she would wear in her dynamic life. We often got ideas from her wacky character as well.
What’s the relationship between designer and muse?
YP: It is an inspirational friendship.
Does your inspiration change from season to season?
YP: We like to travel around to get inspiration from different places and things. Art books and new exhibitions also give us new ideas.
What is your favorite thing to do together?
YP: We love to sit on the studio terrace with music and wine on a sunny day, just chatting and giggling. It’s a really a lovely time for us.
Does Irene have a secret talent?
YP: I think she would be a great actress.
Do you have any secret talents?
YP: We are both are crazy about surfing at the moment, but Steve actually used to be an amateur back-up dancer. He is still pretty good at dancing! I dreamt of being a singer in the past.
Where did you shoot these photos?
YP: This is my friend’s studio. We both love this studio and our friends who live here. This place makes us really relaxed. We always hang out here.
In another life, my muse was:
YP: Our lovely three cats Tash, Lash, and Zush. Their unexpected behavior always inspires us!
