Even though Simone Rocha is young (she is but 26!), her talent is well beyond her years. This season, the collection stuck to a neutral-toned palette with innocent milky whites, tans, gold threads, and black leather, but not without some arresting translucent yellows and saturated green and pink.
Inspired by young romance (among Rocha's influences were Ed Templeton's kissing teenager images as well as Cy Twombly's sculptures), the SS13 looks struck the perfect balance between purity and unruliness. Bangs with messy ponytails were the hairdo du jour on the models, who donned youthful broderie dresses, collared shirts, and bell skirts that recalled school uniforms but with new allure. As for the accessories, brogues were raised with Perspex platforms that burst with color, and back-to-school bags were decked with scalloped lace edging.
