I own a creepy number of black and white shoes. This is because, growing up, one of my mother's favorite questions was "But what would you wear that with?" While this rule scuppered my preteen dreams of croptops, it steered me towards a very large, very versatile collection of monochrome footwear which really does go with everything.
I also learned that black and white doesn't mean boring. Proving this point, Korean brand Reike Nen's shoes play with subtle variations of tone and texture while keeping shades neutral. Started in 2010 by designer Rei Yoon Hong mi, the line aims to bring together classic shapes with surprising detailing. This collection, Hong mi's first at OC, features marbled leather, tassels, and panels of silver! Her signature styles, chunky wedges and platforms, still look delicate thanks to intricate burn-out-effect edges and trim. Shout-out to Seoul!
