Introducing: Aurel Schmidt for Opening Ceremony

You may have noticed that the sign that greets you in our Ace Hotel shop is a rather special one. Composed of trash, food, blood, cigarette butts, and other grotesque, everyday debris, our store name hangs high and can only be attributed to one of our favorite artist’s signature hands: that of Aurel Schmidt. Her drawing, which was created with pencil, colored pencil, acrylic paint, beer, and blood (among other materials), is rendered in exquisite detail to make up a perverse customized logo especially for us.

From her original work, Opening Ceremony developed 11 t-shirts, each containing one letter from the original artwork.  As a major congrats to Aurel’s inclusion in the 2010 Whitney Biennial, we hung the tees together in our shop window, spelling out O-P-E-N-I-N-G -C-E-R-E-M-O-N-Y . With each letter printed on a custom destroyed, frayed, and pre-loved off-white unisex t-shirt, you can get excited to rep them too.

Here’s your chance to win a free tee for yourself:
Create an anagram with the letters from  “O-P-E-N-I-N-G-C-E-R-E-M-O-N-Y” (you don’t even have to use all of the letters)! The 3 best anagrams win a free tee!!

Contest ends tomorrow, Tuesday, March 16th, at 11:59 PM EST.

Example anagrams:
CREEPY OMEN
CRINGE POEM
