A Night to Remember: Rookie Prom with Bleached
Cultist is the online zine headed up by our LA-based friends RACHElyn Remz-Porter and Yasi Salek.
This past Saturday, Rachel and I went to prom with Bleached. It was a lot like the first time we went to prom––exciting, awkward, and mildly uncomfortable, but then really fun. But this time it was mostly because we were the oldest people there by about ten plus years, spiking our own punch and getting yelled at for smoking in the hallways (actually, that was also much like prom the first time around). The surf-punk princesses took us as their dates to Rookie mag's Strange Magic Prom event at Space 15 Twenty in Los Angeles, and while we didn't get them corsages, we compensated with giant gold balloons and a proper pre-prom photo shoot that would make any parent proud (except maybe mine, who probably wish their 30-year-old daughter would not dye her hair green and attend dances full of fourteen year olds).
