Last Thursday, Dashwood Books hosted the U.S. launch and signing for Somewhere to Disappear, a film by Laure Flammarion and Arnaud Uyttenhove in collaboration with the publisher JSBJ. Somewhere to Disappear follows photographer Alec Soth in his search for individuals who have relegated themselves to the margins of contemporary society. The film captures the modern day hermits in their environment of exile and tries to figure out what brought them there. Also included in the DVD booklet are a newsprint and a print by JSBJ. Because of the tropical rainstorm that hit New York City that day, hardly anyone wanted to leave the bookstore. So we kept hanging out until David, the owner, decided to finally switch off the lights for good, at which point we all scurried across the street in the pouring rain to The Smile for dinner.
