OC Editorial: House Calls with Richard Phillips in Chelsea
His large-scale, hyperrealist paintings and recent video projects have solidified Richard Philips a bona fide art star. A friend and collaborator of Christelle, Richard allowed us to step into his studio, high above the streets of Chelsea. Check out what we had to talk about here.

Daria Radlinski: What was your first job?
Richard Phillips: I was a sailmaker
DR: What do you never leave home without?
RP: My red Puma fireproof racing shoes
DR: What object in your studio have you had for the longest time?
RP: My easel—though I don't use easels
I like my Lotus but I love my Porsche.
DR: Do you have a lucky charm?
RP: I keep it a secret for it to remain lucky
DR: What song will you always love?
RP: "Soon" by My Bloody Valentine
DR: If you were going to be in a band who would you want to be your band mates?
RP: Alex Iezzi and Jordan Robin!
DR: Best piece of advice you've ever received?
RP: Never lift
DR: What is your vice?
RP: Quad espressos
DR: Any summer plans?
RP: Painting for my show in the fall, and beach time with [my girlfriend] Josephine!
