"Grigri" is my new favorite word. A grigri is a voodoo amulet used to fend off bad juju (or bring it down on other people—up to you). But mostly, you wear one around your neck or carry one in a small pouch for protection. Grigris were also one of the starting points for Vincent Ribat and Thomas Franc when they began their accessories line, Vanities, on a beach in St. Tropez one day in 2009. The two French designers use hand-carved bone and horn skulls as their recurring motif on colorful tie bracelets and cufflinks. This season, the tiny talismans pop up on bow ties cut from vintage silk scarves and, my absolute favorite, on neon bungee cord bracelets with plastic buckle closures. If you're really worried about your juju, pile on multiple charms with Vanities' wraparound striped yarn and stacks of Kenyan bead bracelets.
