Fine Wine: Happy Birthday, Valentino!
Since his first collection in 1960 that featured the color of poppies (later known as his signature "Valentino red"), Valentino Garavani's designs have embodied pure femininity season after season. Turning his nose up to the mod yéyé look that dominated the day, Valentino incorporated tulle, chiffon, flowers, lace, and vibrant rouge and pink to create the heavenliest of confections for the heavenliest of women. (Liz Taylor was one of his first clients; Jacqueline Kennedy and Sophia Loren were quick to follow suit.) In honor of the maestro's birthday and career spanning over half a century, here are some of our favorite vintage Valentino moments!
