This spring, cult Venice Beach surf label Jimmy'Z is relaunching, almost exclusively at OC! And so, If you haven't heard it already, here's a little story for you... Back in 1984, Malibu-based sculptor Jim Ganzer was playing with the velcro waistband on a pair of softball pants. He figured the closure would be a clever detail for surf shorts, so he knocked out some samples and started selling them out of the back of his car. They were an instant hit with the local (major) surfers and skaters, and by year five Jimmy'Z ad campaigns featured the likes of Christian Hosoi, Steve Olson, and Steve Caballero.
After a brief time-out, Jimmy is bringing back the Z for 2012. Check out the line in action in our mini shoot, opposite, and browse the entire collection of printed velcro shorts and iconic "JIMMY'Z" T-shirts.
Next week, get ready for a super special interview with Jim himself. Find out how he taught the 1984 Olympic German swim team how to surf and what Hunter S. Thompson's favorite Jimmy'Z shirt was.
