Meet the Model: Mia Baxter
Meet Mia, our Girl AND Boy by Band of Outsiders model, sent to us straight from the Band crew itself. She's usually a photographer, but we were able to get her in front of the camera to model these wears––and we're oh-so-glad we did!

Your neighborhood:

Greenwich Village

Hometown: Born in Madrid, Spain but raised in San Antonio, TX

Astrological sign: Leo

What is something about you that no one would expect?

I spend a lot of time upside down in headstands––on hills or off my sofa.

What was the easiest or hardest thing about modeling for Opening Ceremony? Fake smiling all day was an experience, neither good nor bad, just interesting.

When I'm not modeling I'm:

Photographing/Dancing

Where's the coolest or strangest place you've ever been to for a photo shoot? The Birqash Camel Market outside of Cairo

was the strangest. But the most memorable and beautiful place I've ever photographed was the rural village of Huancarcani, about three hours from Cuzco in Peru. There was a gathering of indigenous women in vibrant traditional clothing performing a rose ceremony. They sprinkled red and white roses on my head and feet and I'm pretty sure they blessed me with some good Peruvian magic.

Essential photo shoot song? "Bury the Razor" by The Upsetters.

Most prized possession?

A rock in the shape of a shark––with eyes, a mouth and a fin––that I found on a tiny island off the Pacific coast of Panama.

Best gift you’ve ever given? I made my mom a book for her 60th birthday with letters from all her loved ones, old photos, and bizarre collages of her favorite things like tangerines and pink ranunculus flowers. People wrote her poems and songs and really poured some good soul for her. She cried and then we went dancing.

Best gift you’ve ever received?

Too many to choose. Airline miles and the amazing hosts and companions on my travels.

What is something that everyone should try at least once? Mindfulness Meditation.

If you weren't a model what would you be doing? I'm not a model, I'm a photographer. I'd choose photography again and again.

What's the most played song on your iPod? Bob Dylan's Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid album. Billy 4 is probably most played song.

Favorite place to go to escape the city:

Barton Springs pool in Austin, TX

If you were on a deserted island––5 necessities:
Someone-I-love-who-knows-how-to-make-boats-and-build-huts-and-fish, a filter for clean drinking water, matches, my camera, an 8GB card reader (to make a book saved from the island), and almonds.

What would you choose as your last meal on earth? Tomato-watermelon-basil salad and Mexican chocolate cake.

What's your spirit animal?

 A tiger.
