Why it's so great: Drawings from the Film Beginners allows you to extend the film Beginners beyond the confinements of the screen. The movie's main character, Oliver Fields (played by Ewan McGregor), is loosely based on the film's director, Mike Mills. Oliver attempts to illustrate a record cover for a band called The Sads, and he can't help but draw a history of sadness. Drawings from the Film Beginners is the final product of Oliver's depictions of melancholy, but in actuality the drawings are by Mills himself, and they aim to portray his emotions upon his father coming out of the closet at age 75.
