Kate and Laura Mulleavy took a terrestrial turn for today's Fall/Winter 2012 RODARTE show, focusing on animal skins and Sequoia forest tones. Shades of rust and fern, along with leather and sherpa, were belted into tight 30s silhouettes with sweeping skirts. Alongside the signature gowns and frocks were fantasy hiking outfits of high-waisted cargo pants paired with cropped fisherman's sweaters, and some serious outerwear. Chunky lace-up boots, Mary Janes, and booties in linen and leather were branded Rodarte after years of Nicholas Kirkwood collaborations. Following SPRING'S wide-eyed Disneyana, the collection felt pleasingly sophisticated and ladylike. Maybe we've been watching way too much Downton Abbey of late, but we can totally picture Lady Mary wearing one of the tiered tea party gowns.
