Me and my BFF, Cathy. We've been planning to visit the fish market for years. Mission accomplished!
The energetic Garakdong Fish Market. This was at the top of my to-do list and was the highlight of my trip! You get to choose your own fish and have it cooked at any market restaurant you want.
A detailed sign (made with traditional Korean paper) advertising tea
Miltop is the most famous place for shaved ice desserts. It's located on the top floor of the Hyundai mall. I've been a loyal customer since elementary school––seriously!
Cathy having the Chinese/Korean signature dish Jajangmyun (sweet soybean noodle) and Tangsooyook (fried sweet pork) at the amazing Galleria mall food court!
Lamb BBQ is to die for, and apparently many Koreans agree! It seems to be Seoul's newest food trend.
Moon Jar Bar, where modern interior design meets traditional food. It's a great spot to enjoy the best of Korean drinks like Makgoli (rice alcohol) as well as delicious pancakes and stew.
A major street food cart moment—Anthony Bourdain would be proud! Hodduck honey pancakes are the best winter snack.
If the Louise Bourgeois spiders looming above the entrance are any indication, this is a great art museum. The leeum, sAMSUNG MUSEUM OF ART is filled with modern and contemporary work by both Korean and foreign artists. The space itself––designed by Mario Botta, Jean Nouvel, and Rem Koolhaus––is impressive.
An art gallery in Samchung dong. Always look up, you'll never know who's walking on the roof!
I checked out this new and very selective men's shop called MAN ON THE BOON in Shinsegae International Mall. Created by Tyler Brûlé of Monocle and Masamichi Katayama from Wonderwall (an interior design firm), this shop simply took me to the moon!
ALAND is my vice! On this visit, I left with some Tetris brick earrings and a knitted shoulder bag.
MSK Shop is another great men's shop located in Shinsadong, on the 6th floor. This hidden gem is named after the owner, Sooki Min. The shop supports local Korean and international designers.
10 Corso Como Seoul is not just a great place to shop but also a cozy café, where you can check out books while chatting with friends over food and coffee!
Coex Mall, the largest underground shopping mall in Asia, is always packed with crowds. Here you can shop, eat, and see movies—there's even an aquarium! It's easy to spend an entire day here without realizing it.
Artbox is one of the oldest stationary and gift stores in Korea. I never tire of this wonderland—I mean, they have a heart-shaped paper wishing tree. Enough said!
A flea market with an overwhelming vintage collection. I'm totally going back there on my next trip.
Seoul's super smart metro includes PLATFORM SCREEN DOORS and I'm darn proud of it!
Hells yeah!
Traffic never looked so beautiful and Seoul-ful!
I love the modern and majestic architecture, now found all over the city.
Away from the malls and markets, there's nothin' like a homemade dinner cooked by Mama Kim!
An enchanted forest in my old neighborhood. Yes, we have four seasons.
Taken from my old bedroom window, I miss this view already!
Guess what? Seoul got a makeover! Since my last visit, my friends and family back home have been updating me on the city's changes, and this upgraded and much cooler version of Seoul definitely gave me a pleasant shock. Check out all of my adventures below, which include the Garakdong Fish Market, Miltop shaved ice desserts, street cart honey pancakes, Louise Bourgeois spiders, magical malls, ever changing architecture, and more.
