___________________________________________________________ Best Dream Interview Come True: OC is no different from most fashion geeks in that we are obsessed with Jean Paul Gaultier. Humberto talked to the man himself about his nearly four decade-long career as a fashion legend. 35 Years of Gaultier: Humberto Interviews the Man Behind the Empire ___________________________________________________________ Best Reason to Stop Trying to Master the Electric Slide: Because you will never be as good as Lil' Buck––fact. One look at the 22-year-old dancer from Memphis' insanely fluid moves in this video (filmed by Spike Jonze) makes you wonder whether he even has bones in his body. Yo-Yo Ma's musical accompaniment is heavenly. Spike Jonze Presents: Lil' Buck and Yo-Yo Ma ___________________________________________________________ Best New Beats on the Block: The GHE20 G0THiK (Ghetto Gothik) DJ duo mixes flaming highlighter hair with sexed-up sportsgear as flawlessly as they mix DMX with Cruel Intentions soundbites. (Proof: the GG for OC mixtape). In a special interview, we took the pair to NYC's San Gennaro festival, where they talked to us about everything from being teen party kids to SXSW. OC Mixtape Series #3: On Planet Ghe20 G0TH1K Shayne and Venus ___________________________________________________________ Best Girl Band: All we really want is girl. Scott Sternberg welcomed his new, dreamier line, girl., to the Band of Outsiders family (as if we didn't already love Band and Boy enough). We got the scoop first-hand, plus gained some diet tips and played word games along the way. My Girl.: An Interview with Scott Sternberg ___________________________________________________________ Best 'I'm with the Band': Our favorite silver screen scene-stealer, Kirsten Dunst, packed her bags to the brim with Reyn Spooner for OC when she headed to France to go on tour with her boyfriend's band, Jenny and Johnny. The gang later sent us a slew of perfectly sunny snaps. On Tour: Kirsten Dunst in Reyn Spooner for OC ___________________________________________________________ Best Internet-Sensational Model Moment: The planking craze spread like wildfire across the www. this year, and when the totally major Cole Mohr did his own interpretation at our Bean pole x Kim Jones photo shoot, it was too perfect. Arguably one of our favorite moments in the OC studio. Make It Snappy: Cole Mohr Planking ___________________________________________________________ Best Make 'Do with What You Have: When you see "athletic socks" and "buns" together in a sentence, you're likely to think that we're onto a new bum-toning workout routine for 2012. But our homegirl and resident hairstylist Sloane Sera showed us it ain't necessarily so, with this clever way of turning socks into hair accessories for the perfect messy bun. Perfect Buns with Sloane Sera ___________________________________________________________ Best Catwalk Production in a Gymnasium: Okay, so maybe we invented this category because we had to figure out a way to mention Chloë Sevigny's first-ever runway show in her time collaborating with OC. But everything from the pre-show to Chloë and Humberto's interview was such a blast! Behold: Chloë Sevigny for OC Resort 2012! ___________________________________________________________ Best Interview with a One-Man Magazine Powerhouse: OC quizzed Luis Venegas, the Madrid-based editor of CANDY mag, Electric Youth!, and Fanzine 137, on everything about his audacious and sexy page-turners. It Takes Two: Luis Venegas of CANDY, Electric Youth!, and Fanzine 137 Magazines ___________________________________________________________ Best LGBT Moment 4 Life: 2011 proved to be a huge year for LGBT rights, and as New Yorkers, we couldn't have been prouder of our state for passing gay marriage. JD Samson shared an amazing piece on finding out the good news while on her way to the infamous SF Dyke March. Best Pride yet! JD Samson Celebrates Pride in SF ___________________________________________________________ Best Iambic Pentameter: The writer, performance artist, and self-professed "art world’s post-Generation X pomo baby" Michael David Quattlebaum, Jr. (aka Mykki Blanco) raided OC to do a dramatic reading from his newly published book, just for us. From Silence to Noise: A Special Reading by Mykki Blanco ___________________________________________________________ Best Reason to Brave the Canal Street Crowds: We visited i-D, V and Harper's Bazaar stylist (and Purple Magazine Fashion Editor––phew), Mel Ottenberg in his Canal Street studio and pored over old magazine editorials he's styled, chatted about his prodigious career, and even discovered that we share a mutual love for Junior Gaultier. Meet the Stylist: Mel Ottenberg ___________________________________________________________ Best Lapdance OC Will Ever Get. Ever.: Nicki Minaj invited our lucky OCLA'er Michelangelo onstage at her Los Angeles performance. There, she shimmied onto his lap for all to see and believe. Make It Snappy: Nicki Minaj Gets Sexy for OC ___________________________________________________________ Best Reason to Not Stay at Club Med, Mexico: The elusive designer Bernhard Willhelm graciously invited OC arts contributor Alexandre Stipanovich to his Mexican casa, where he retreated to work on his upcoming collection. This is probably one of coolest experiences of Mexico that we've ever seen. Mexico Lindo: A Visit to Bernhard Willhelm's Summer Studio ___________________________________________________________ Best Hostesses with the Mostest: OC spent a glorious afternoon in the East Village apartment of Chloë Sevigny, where we toured her closet and sifted through amazing gems of photos. (Lucky for you, there's more to come!) OCTV Presents: At Home with Chloë. –– Over in Paris, Olympia Le-Tan let us into her colorfully cluttered flat and allowed us to poke around. She even shared some of her favorite treasures with us, which included her grandmother's Pucci scarves, Alaïa, YSL and more. A major treat! Chez Olympia Le-Tan Chloë in her closet Olympia at home ___________________________________________________________ Best Visual Dose of Vitamin-D: Gia Coppola took our breath away with her video, 22, which featured a handful of her friends, dreamy and drunk on the California afternoon sun. Her take on Reyn Spooner for OC made us covet the collection even harder, if that's even possible. OCTV Presents: '22' by Gia Coppola, Featuring Reyn Spooner for OC ___________________________________________________________ Best Reasons for a Hangover: Last but not least are the OC-hosted parties that may have left us parched the next morning, but took the cake regardless: A Very Chloë Dance Party, OC's Help Japan Benefit at The Standard, Block Party! Bean Pole x Kim Jones, FNO 2010: The World's Greatest Carnival, and Puttin' on a Show: OC + CANDY Magazine. ___________________________________________________________ Happy New Year, everyone!
