I've always been a sucker for boy bands and I just found my new favorite one. Welcome Elite Gymnastics. James Brooks and Josh Clancy of Minneapolis make epic, uptempo dance tracks for those who have soft spots for classic jungle break beats and breathy vocals. The duo released the 12" EP "Ruin" under my favorite label, Acéphale. (Acéphale also reps Salem, Kingdom, Midnight Juggernauts, and Memory Tapes among others.) The album is an official release of tracks that were previously available only as MP3s on the EG Tumblr (which is amazing in itself!), and is limited to only 1000 copies worldwide. Get it now at OC! Have a listen to our of favorite track off the album, "Here in Heaven" and download the K-Poptastic mixtape they made us, which you'll have to hear to believe. Plus, find out James and Josh's current top 5's in our Q&A.
ZC: Top five people on Twitter? EG: @LILINTERNET and @XiuXiuforLife are the GOATs. We like following people like @pamyurin and @iamkmk that tweet in languages we cannot read. One of my favorite things on the Internet is the tweet that @jacky_jack_jack made from inside the cash cab. It was really great.
ZC: Top five most played songs on your iTunes?
EG: "Bubble Pop!" by Hyuna, "Shampoo" by After School, "Come Back You Bad Person" by Kahi, "Good Day" by IU, and "Pon Pon Pon" by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.
ZC: Top five celebrity crushes?
EG: I don't know, I mean celebrity crushes are sort of by nature completely surface-level and not based in reality, and that's not really interesting to either of us.
ZC: Top five words that describe Elite Gymnastics?
EG: This would probably be hard for us to think of on our own, but luckily there is this site called All Music that provides a list of adjectives to describe every band in their database. Here are five words from the list of adjectives they have on their page for Elite Gymnastics:
1. stylish
2. druggy
3. refined/mannered
4. detached
5. yearning.
