OC Mixtape Series #5: Pictureplane Mix & Video Premiere
by
Zachary Ching
Anyone who can mix fishnet mesh, fitted caps, latex body armor and basketball jerseys, I'm a fan of––especially if their music sounds like that, too. Such is the case when it comes to Travis Egedy, aka Pictureplane. I've managed to see him live at least five times in sold-out venues, big and small. And last weekend, when he took the stage alongside Spank Rock and Big Freedia, was my sixth. (Am I at groupie status yet?) Besides giving us this totally banging downloadable mixtape, he also chose the OC Blog to officially premiere his new video for "Black Nails". Shot entirely while on tour in Russia, this fiery clip really takes you there––see for yourself.

Zachary Ching: You're constantly touring all over the world. Your last video for "Negative Slave" was shot on pyramids in Mexico, and "Black Nails" was shot in Russia. What's your favorite city in the world for playing shows?
Travis Egedy: Brooklyn, Moscow, Denver, Portland, Berlin, Baltimore, Los Angeles and lots of others! And a special shoutout to Anchorage, Alaska.
ZC: What about for shopping?
TE: Denver has the best thrift stores, and the Actual Pain Warehouse in Seattle is a special place.
ZC: Clubbing?
TE: New York and Kazan, in Russia.
ZC: Eating?
TE: Mexico City street tacos.
ZC: People watching?
TE: New York.
ZC: Your "Parental Advisory" baseball cap is becoming your signature look. What do you think is the most explicit lyric ever written?
TE: One of my first sexual memories is becoming aroused while listening to "Let's Talk About Sex" by Salt-N-Pepa on the radio.
ZC: Fill in the blanks...
TE: I like my SELF but I love my UNIVERSE . I never leave home without my ONYX and my OBSIDIAN . CLOSE-MINDED/SPIRITED HUMANS totally freak me out.
ZC: Last question. True or false: "Post Physical" was actually written for Rihanna.
TE: That is false. Rihanna wont return my phone calls, so I am not writing shit for her.
