Not-So-Chunky Knits

What did the 0 say to the 8? Nice Belt.

This lame joke is basically how I feel about sweater dresses. A chunky knit is not always destined to be your partner in crime. If you have some good curve to your frame, there's a chance that a sweater dress could make you look, well, spherical. But don't lose hope just yet! This is where your belt comes in to turn you into a total 10!

Don't get me wrong, I love a monochromatic outfit, but it's not the easiest look to pull off––and sometimes more is really more. In this case, adding a tiny sliver of purple manages to break up the color palette and tie the look together.

___________________________________________________ The Boyfriend Shirt

I shouldn't even have to explain this one. The photo says it all. Your boyfriend's shirt without a belt is a frumptastic look. Just don't do it. Proof below of what just a little piece of leather can do for this situation.

A good belt can turn your boy's shirt into a dress, but with a little more imagination it can maximize even more of your closet staples. See: the fur scarf. With the latch of a belt, it becomes a new fur vest. Genius!

The "pajama trend" is the best thing to become acceptable in fashion since––wait––it's still not considered totally acceptable. I can, however, say that it is the most comfortable thing to happen in fashion since probably the oversized Tommy Hilfiger era. Let's admit it, wearing pajamas can look a bit lazy, but adding a belt to the mix makes it look more intentional and less I-literally-just-woke-up. Here, Anna sports a men's buttonup and matching boxers from Opening Ceremony's fall collection. Somewhere, Julian Schnabel is smiling.

In this new blog series, Opening Ceremony's Lead Stylist Daria teaches us how to put a spin on some of her favorite pieces at OC.

Just Belt It! But actually, the old addage turns true as we explore one of our favorite belt lines, Maison Boinet. A tried and true staple since 1858, we can't get enough of Maison Boinet's endless array of dyed leather belts in every perfect shade of autumn. The best part? Most of them will run you less than $100 and once you take a peek at our belted before-and-afters, you'll see how they're really the belt that keeps on giving.
