Humberto once asked me if I could wear only one designer for the rest of my life, who would it be? Before I could even open my mouth to answer he guessed: Proenza. So, I guess it was a rhetorical question. The only bad thing about going to a show of a designer that you really, truly admire is that you hope that they’ll live up to your expectations. It’s like meeting a celebrity, really. And if that’s the case, then Proenza was just as tall, charming, and cool as I had always expected.
What I think everyone appreciates most about Proenza’s show is the actual setup of the runway. Because the models walk through a maze of single row seating, each guest can actually see the show -- unlike the stadium style seating that nearly every other show employs. The benefit of this was evident when everyone gushed about each detail post-show. Not every show-goer has so much to say about the insane structure of a raffia dress, the fit of a fluorescent eel skin skirt, or their obsession with a certain neoprene top, like they do when they actually all get to see it. Perhaps that’s why this show had some of the best praise of any that I’ve been to this week. Check out my video of the opening and see for yourself!
