With her amazing sparkly bras, skin-tight pants and killer cumbia hip moves, there was no question that Selena Quintanilla, aka the "Mexican Madonna", was slated to become the next Gloria Estefan. April 12th, the day that the jealous and embezzling president of her fan club shot her, was so devastating that George Bush Sr. declared it to be "Selena Day" in Texas. Remember the scene at the end of Selena the movie in which J. Lo (who played the pop star--this was way before she got On the 6) is onstage performing "Dreaming of You," and the rose falls at her feet in slow motion before the chaos of her death ensues? And then, cut to her killer sitting in her pick-up, sobbing and pointing a gun at her own head? Still gives me the chills.
