As soon as I walked into PACE GALLERY this week to see Tara Donovan's mylar sculpture, I was amazed. The gigantic, glimmering work fills the entire room. The construction of the piece is amazing--each orb consists of smaller orbs, each made out of folded mylar. Together, the orbs look like a larger-than-life string of organic molecules that have fallen from outer space and landed in Chelsea. As you circle the piece, the
intricacies of its parts are visible up close, and each new perspective changes what the sculpture looks like as a whole. The distinctive shimmer of the work, along with the precision of the folded mylar, give it a digitalized feel. Be sure to check it out this weekend.
Through April 9, 2011.
