A Trip Worth the Trip: Gary Hill at Barbara Gladstone
by Benjamin Richardson
This past weekend, I made my way to Barbara Gladstone Gallery to check out Gary Hill’s new show, "of surf, death, ropes & tableaux: The Psychedelic Gedankenexperiment." Hill’s newest stuff uses a lot of 3-D, which visitors view with glasses or fixed stereoscopic devices. In the back room of the gallery--a pitch black space that more feels like a sensory deprivation chamber--is one installation. The images projected show an x-ray of a pulsating human brain while a strobe light flashes occasionally and an audio track plays LSD-affected statements like, "One breathes," and "It's always the same." A trip worth the trip, through April 23, 2011.
