Flowers + charts = a face
Friend of OC Andrew Kuo is a New York-based artist who likes charts, flowers and the Knicks. Yesterday was the opening of his second exhibition at Taxter & Spengemann in Chelsea. If you've ever tried rationalize your emotions by drawing a chart, then you should definitely see this show, because that’s what Kuo does: chart his emotions. Kuo chooses more or less problematic moments of his life and translates them into diagrams, putting them together in an abstract but logical way. He uses a synesthetic approach to associate each color with a single emotion, just like Kandinsky used to associate colors with music (which kuo actually does for the New York Times).
Visually, this series plays with geometry and bright colors that sometimes recall Josef Albers’ optical art. The exhibition also showcases more figurative works by Kuo, such as his flower paintings, portraits and iPhone photos of flowers printed with charts. Andrew Kuo's blog, titled Emo + Beer = Busted Career, should also give you an idea of how cool "My List of Demands" show is. Don't forget to check out our Andrew Kuo gear here!
"My List of Demands" runs through April 30.
