In my early toy collecting days, I came across Marcel Dzama's Uzama: The Monsters Of Winnipeg Folklore. I remember being impressed with toy design and packaging, which contained a story about the series and specific character. Each figure reminded me of the classic 1970s Star Wars figures from the cantina scene--one even wears a garment that looks like a Vader cape with the collar popped!

Last night, I made my way to  DAVID ZWIRNER for the opening of Dzama's latest show titled "Behind Every Curtain." Every medium that Dzama works in was present. I liked the film, A Game of Chess, where the classic Dzama imagery was present in live action. The various paintings displayed throughout the gallery were great, too. The soundtrack to the night was being played live in a corner by a well-dressed mariachi band. Most of the sculptures rotated on their own while attendees milled about. The show will be up until March 15th, but Dzama will be back on March 5th to sign books and the newly printed catalog from the show.
