Last night, DIS magazine and QUEERS ON FILM presented a screening of Gregg Araki's groundbreaking film Totally F***** Up at the LBGT Center’s screening room. Filmed in 1991 and released in 1993, T.F.U was the first in the Araki "Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy" (Totally F***** Up, The Doom Generation, Nowhere.) Even though the movie is just shy of 20 years old, DIS followed the screening with a discussion on the film and its remarkable relevance to this day and age. They spoke mostly on the "alienation" aspect of the movie: a time before texting, emails, and smartphones allowed for like-minded people to connect. Patrick from DIS added that when he was a teenager he did not identify with any part of gay culture until seeing this movie, saying, "I didn't know there were gay people who liked Nine Inch Nails." LOL.
Check out some of my favorite stills from the movie!
