The Band of Outsiders Intern Files #3- Michael Fenton
In this week's INTERN FILES, Band of Outsiders' Scott Sternberg zeroes in on Michael, who boasts sharp math skills and a palate for Mexican food.
Scott Sternberg: Why did you want to intern at Band of Outsiders? Michael Fenton: Because they make the clothes I've always wanted to wear.
SS: What do customers say at OC about Band?
MF: They love them. Obviously.
SS: Name a project you worked on here that you needed to think about and one you could do in your sleep.
MF: Unfortunately, it's been so long since I interned I can't really recall. But my first project on my first day was working in the Lego Room at OC.
SS: Who is the most interesting person you met here?
MF: Too many... Everyone who works there, especially Scott and Jason Schwartzman.
SS: What is your favorite piece of Band clothing you left with?
MF: SS10 3 Gold Button Blazer and FW09 Donegal Tweed School Boy Blazer.
SS: What was your favorite snack in our kitchen? Favorite lunch to pick up?
MF: Mine was before the time of a fully stocked kitchen to which interns had access. For lunch: Teres Mexican Grill and Larchmont Wine & Cheese.
SS: How many cigarettes do you estimate you smoked in our alley over the course of your internship?
MF: 5 cigarettes a day x 2.5 days a week (on average) x 52 weeks (1 year). 650. Ew! Disgusting to think I've ever smoked that many cigarettes. Scott keeps telling me to quit with Allan Carr's easy way. Maybe now I will.
SS: Do you know any secrets about my staff that I don't? Did you have a crush on anyone?
MF: Too many (though I increasingly believe in Scott's omniscience). Sort of.
SS: Internships - worth it or forget it?
MF: Worth it. Incomparable learning opportunity and exposure to objects, environments, situations and people one would never ordinarily have.
SS: What do you want to do when you grow up?
MF: I'm still waiting for Scott to help me figure that one out.
